MEETING ZAYD THE STORY BEGIN

Inaya, a beautiful 14-year-old Hausa-Fulani girl, walks home from school in Kano, Nigeria. She is lively, playful, and full of innocence. As she crosses the road, she notices a tall, handsome young man dressed in black and white, walking calmly with a cane. His striking features—sharp jawline, heart-shaped lips, and a sword-shaped tattoo—draw her attention.

She rushes to his side and calls, "Yaya Zayd!" But he remains silent, only nodding in response.

"Are you going home to see Abba?" she asks. Again, he only nods.

Despite his silence, Inaya chatters away, filling the air with her lively voice. When they reach her home, she thanks him for walking her back. Zayd only nods again before walking away.

Inside, her mother greets her warmly, and they talk about her school. Later, her older sister, Nesrine, arrives, exhausted from school. She complains about their strict school routine, jokingly telling their mother, "Mama, I am tired of school. Maybe I should just get married!"

Mama playfully responds, "Should I tell Zayd to bring your bride price then?"

Nesrine scoffs, "Marry a mute and blind man? Never!" Inaya, angered, defends Zayd, insisting that despite his disability, he is better than most men.

THE SECRET OF ZAYD

Zayd, mysterious and quiet, returns home—a modest house slightly larger than Inaya’s. As he enters, he removes his dark glasses, revealing piercing hazel eyes, bright and sharp. He is neither blind nor mute.

His only friend, Musa, teases him, "Why do you keep pretending to be something you're not?"

Zayd, uninterested, shrugs, "It’s necessary."

Later that night, Abdul, Inaya’s older brother, questions him, "Zayd, what’s your real name?"

Zayd remains silent for a while before responding, "I don’t remember."

Abdul presses, "Then how do you know where to go, even though you pretend to be blind?"

Zayd smirks, saying nothing.

DANGER AT SCHOOL

At college, Nesrine sits under a tree, reading, when her abusive boyfriend, Hafiz, approaches. He snatches her book and scolds her for ignoring him. She stammers in fear, making up excuses.

Muktar, Hafiz’s friend, notices a beautiful girl passing by—Inaya. He nudges Hafiz, saying, "Who is she? She looks innocent and perfect."

Nesrine panics, "She’s nobody! I don’t know her!"

Hafiz, sensing a lie, slaps her, making her cry. He warns, "Next time, don’t lie to me."

Back home, Inaya finds Nesrine acting strangely but doesn’t suspect anything. That night, Nesrine prays, "Ya Allah, save me from Hafiz. He is a monster."

A PROTECTOR IN THE SHADOWS

One evening, Hafiz and Muktar follow Inaya and Nesrine home in a car, offering them a ride. Inaya politely refuses. But when Hafiz orders Nesrine to get in the car, she freezes in fear.

Before Hafiz can act, Abdul appears, "Nesrine, Inaya, come home now!" The girls quickly escape.

From a distance, Zayd watches everything. He clenches his fists, resisting the urge to confront Hafiz. Instead, he follows the girls home, ensuring they are safe.

Inside, Malam, Inaya’s father, warns her, "Avoid strangers, Auta."

That night, Zayd thinks about Inaya. "She is different. So full of life, so innocent," he muses, confused about his emotions.

A FALL INTO DESTINY

The next day, Inaya plays around the house when she accidentally runs into Zayd at the doorstep. She bumps into his chest and falls, hitting her head.

Nesrine and Malam rush to her, but Zayd picks her up before anyone else. He gently lays her on a mat.

Malam watches him closely. "Zayd, I know you're not mute. But today, I saw something else. A blind man shouldn’t be able to catch someone that fast."

Zayd remains silent.

Abdul stares at him, "Are you even blind at all?"

Zayd removes his glasses, revealing his stunning hazel eyes. Malam and Abdul are speechless.

"You... you can see?" Abdul asks.

Zayd sighs, "Yes, I am neither blind nor mute. But it’s easier if people think I am."

Malam remains deep in thought, realizing Zayd is not an ordinary man.

MYSTERIES UNRAVELING

That night, as Zayd walks home, he hears Abdoul’s voice.

"Zayd, your name isn’t real, is it?"

Zayd remains silent.

"Are you hiding from someone?" Abdul asks.

Zayd hesitates before whispering, "Yes."

Meanwhile, at home, Inaya tells Malam, "Abba, why does Yaya Musa call Zayd ‘Amir’? That means ‘prince,’ doesn’t it?"

Malam pretends not to know, but inside, he wonders: Who is Zayd really?

AN UNEXPECTED PROPOSAL

One evening, Malam calls Inaya to sit beside him. He gently strokes her hair and asks, "Auta, do you love Zayd?"

She blushes, startled, "No, Abba!" and runs inside.

Inside, Nasir laughs. "You love him! I knew it!"

Inaya scolds her, "You wouldn’t understand."

In her heart, she admits, "Zayd is different. And that scares me."

Later, Malam calls Zayd for a private conversation.

"Zayd, you’re a good man. I want you to marry Inaya."

Zayd, caught off guard, doesn’t respond.

FACING THE PAST

Musa, Zayd’s best friend, sighs as they sit together later.

"Amir, will you ever return and reclaim what is yours?" Zayd shakes his head. "I don’t want power. I want peace." Musa smirks. "And Inaya? Is she part of that peace?" Zayd clenches his jaw. "I don’t know." The past is catching up. Secrets will soon be revealed.
